Why Study A Level Biology?

The work of biologists increases our understanding about the natural world in which we live and helps us address issues of personal well being and worldwide concern, such as environmental change, threats to human health, and maintaining viable and abundant food supplies. Being an AQA course it also continues with the same style as the GCSE Science that is taught at St Edward’s with a combination of written end of course examinations and centre assessed practical work.
Course Content
The AQA specification builds on concepts and skills that will been developed in the GCSE Science specifications. It aims to build young biologists that have the skills to investigate and analyse the way that biology impacts on our society and us as individuals. It presents biology as exciting, relevant and challenging! All students will aim to follow the 2 year full A Level.

Where the course leads:
Biology careers occur in many specialized areas such as Biotechnology, Ecology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, and Physiology. Medicine, Dentistry and Education are also possible career paths, which have been followed by past students.
