At St Edward’s Sixth Form, the personal development of young people is valued just as highly as their academic achievements. Our programme covers four broad strands; Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, Personal Enquiry and A Level Mindset and Career Experience.
Personal, Social, Health and Economic education
Students spend one hour a fortnight following a curriculum made up of three key components; safeguarding, life skills and careers & pathways. In safeguarding, students learn about topics such as consent, harassment, cyberbullying and protecting yourself online. In life skills, students learn about topics such as personal finance, living on a budget and building a credit score. In careers and pathways, students explore their future options such as university, apprenticeships and entering the workplace.
Personal Enquiry
Students spend one hour a fortnight learning about and discussing significant moral, ethical and social challenges that we face in society today.
A Level Mindset
Students spend one registration each week looking at what it takes to be successful at Level 3 study. A wide range of topics are covered including study skills, managing workload, managing stress, goalsetting and applying to university.
Career Experience
Gaining relevant career experience is a vital part of the 6th form curriculum and one week a year is dedicated to year 12’s. With support from the 6th form team, students organise their placements take part in their career experience and then evaluate their experiences afterwards.
As well as this, we have a range of guest speakers that visit students throughout year 12 and 13. These range from University and Apprenticeship opportunities to charities and gap year options.
