Why Study A Level Geography?

In Geography you will see how and why the world is changing. 

Geography is a great choice if you are interested in studying about the world, making sense of why things happen as they do, how people and places are linked, and why we will have to understand this for the future of our species. 

The course content requires you to enhance communication skills, literacy and numeracy, IT skills, spatial awareness, team working, problem solving and environmental awareness.  Field work/visits are an integral part of the course. 

This course is particularly suitable if you are interested in people and events from around the world.

Component 1: Physical Geography (40% of grade)

Component 2: Human Geography (40% of grade) 

  • Global systems and global governance 

  • Changing places 

  • Population and the environment 

Component 3: Geography Investigation (20% of grade) 

  • Fieldwork Investigation

Where can this take you?

After studying Geography at St Edward’s, you could consider a wide range of courses at university or degree apprenticeships. An A level in geography opens doors!  You will find that geography A Level is desired for most degree level courses and/or employment opportunities.  Further education – geographers go on to study higher level courses, including degrees.  Employment – geographers go into a wide range of jobs including: Advertising, Marketing, Education, Planning, Environmental Management, Retailing, Finance, Sales, Journalism, Social/Health Services, Law and Tourism.
