The Extended Project is a research project that students can undertake on a topic of their choice. It could be linked to a subject you are studying or it could be something that you have an interest in away from the classroom. The final piece can be presented as a 5000 word written report or it can be submitted as an artefact along with a 1000 word report.
The qualification is an AS Level and normally completed in Year 12.
The subject is primarily led by the student working independently but this is supported with a supervisor who guides each student through the process and meets with the student regularly to discuss their project. As well as this there are several taught elements which cover topics such as time management, the ethics of research, how to reference work and how to present your findings.
